The Responsive Mobile Website Revolution
The mobile device revolution has started … are you ready? Is your business taking advantage? Is your website ‘responsive’?
So, is your website responsive and mobile-ready? According to recent research less than 19% of the world’s top 500,000 web sites are mobile-ready and that means you may already be losing business to those competitors who have already embraced this trend. Have you checked your web analytics recently? You’ll be amazed how your website traffic is increasingly being generated by mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, BlackBerrys, Androids and other types of smartphone or tablet devices. In fact, by providing a satisfactory mobile experience, companies pave the way for clients to go on to purchase. A ForeSee Results’ survey found those who are satisfied with a mobile experience are 32% more likely to go on to purchase from that company online and 31% more likely to buy offline. It is also estimated that by 2013 more people will access internet using mobile devices than computers. So you could be losing potential customers if your website doesn’t provide a great user experience on a smartphone or tablet.
Making a decision to ensure your web site is mobile and m-commerce ready will ensure your customers can engage with you no matter what platform they use. Going mobile ready does mean business!
Making it happen for you:
Making A Good First Impression Online
It always amazes us here at oneweb just how many websites have homepages that are so cluttered you can’t immediately see the content and struggle to gauge what the site is actually about. At first glance you are bombarded with adverts, banners and some text you daren’t hover over for fear of opening another ad box. Website owners are so desperate to get their keywords in, they forget all about the first impression they are giving new visitors. Thankfully, within the latest algorithm update, Google has put in place the incentive for websites to tidy themselves up and produce quality content. The algorithm acts as a quality filter by penalising websites with undesirable clutter and top heavy advertising. Phew.. We thought it was a good time to put together a reminder of the basic ‘First Impression Rules’ that should govern how you layout your homepages and/or landing pages.
Your website is very often the first time a potential customer comes across your business. In less than 60 seconds they will have asked themselves:
- Have I arrived at the right place?
- Is this a credible, professional company?
- Does this website make me feel comfortable?
- Does this website offer what I am searching for and can I trust it?
- Do I feel welcome?
You may think that design is not the most important factor in a website and that functionality plays a far more important role, but it’s design that’s responsible for making that good first impression every time. Read more >>

The EDL website is launched
![]()
We are delighted to announce the launch of the all-new Enterprising Developments Ltd website. EDL are a firm of property developers based in Nottinghamshire and London. They specialise in period property renovation and new build developments. Their website needed to be image intensive to highlight renovations as before and after picture sets, for this we have utilised thumbnails and lightboxes to keep the server load down. It has worked very well and all at oneweb.co are delighted with the results. The site features an image slider running throughout, 3 PHP forms for capturing data of potential clients, several image galleries, a news blog section and my personal favourite, a 3 minute movie highlighting some of their favourite works. The site is fully scalable to add development projects as they come on stream with little touches like movies flowing and panning through rooms to give the viewer a feeling of actually being there. Thanks to EDL and good luck with the new project at Gloucester Place, London. We look forward to seeing the results. The site is available at edl-uk.com

The Bateman’s Mill Hotel
The Bateman’s Mill Hotel in Chesterfield was opening under new management at the end of October 2010 and needed a great looking website ready for the launch day which was 2 weeks away! The oneweb.co team worked hard to produce this stunning looking site and delivered the goods at 11pm the night before it was due to launch. A job well done to the team. The brief was to produce a site to showcase the hotel’s newly refurbished guest rooms, bar and restaurant. It required a content management system for the hotel owners to upload and update menus themselves and a blog to announce special offers and forthcoming events. In addition to this was integration into the online booking systems and front desk software. The importance of search engine optimisation in the hotel market is critical and we are proud to say that, one month down the line, the site has been viewed by over 2000 unique visitors nearly all from organic search results! The new owners were delighted with their new website and oneweb.co wish them all the best for the future. The site is available at batemansmillhotel.co.uk
